I decided to have fun with it - so I did a Web site for my Album of the Year winners (I'm a music geek). You can scroll through all the winners (all the info, art, everything is pulled from databases via mySQL and php, so there's only one actual page other than the home/register and login pages). Besides reading what I've written about each album (that took a long time!) you can view a YouTube video, check out the tracklist and then log in and comment on each album, and assign star ratings to them, which will appear with your post (as well as your name, hometown and timestamp).

I've also used some basic javascript to show the years when you hover on and off the thumbs on the left nav. For an easter egg, click my name on the bottom.

Actually, I'm still not quite done - I want to add album trivia, some embedded podcasts I've made, a list of album runnerups...but I had to be realistic to meet the class' deadline. But I definitely plan to build on this, as I learn new skills, and use it in the future. I want to take a Flash class and incorporate that on the homepage.

Okay, I'm not getting this. We really need to cover this material in class tomorrow. My site remains basically the same. Got the image names to break in the txt file (/n or \n never worked so I put in a break tag) but all I can get is for the first image to show up on the page so I didn't bother to put it in the right page. I am having a lot of difficulty with this. I hope I'm not the only one.

Progress, Brick Walls

Okay, I'm done for the night.

Progress: Managed to get file uploads to write file path, caption and usernames to the .txt file, although for some reason the /n is not causing it to line break. I've also managed to set cookies and basically work out the login and registration pages.

Brick Walls: Now that I've got the file info writing to the .txt file, I have to figure out how to a) get it to line break and b) turn into an array which I can then get to appear on the homepage as actual images. I have no idea how to do this.

Worked on this while wrapped in a blanket on my couch. If I had had a Snuggie, my hands would have been free to code.

But alas...

This is as far as I got. I am, as I said earlier, under the weather. Regardless, this was tough and I'm really looking forward to going over it in class tomorrow. I finally gave in after I realized I have no idea how to make that button not appear as three different buttons. WTF?

I am sick as a dog, so I don't have the patience to tweak this any more. Gotta move on to the next assignment. Have to admit, I'm very glad I didn't switch to the advanced class like I'd been pondering. Finding this to be pretty difficult. Honestly, some of the things I got to work I have no idea how I got to work.
